The Book of Woodville Fire Brigade’s History
‘Answering the Call’ 1885 – 2010 125 years of Service
The Brigade was formed by the towns’ people and administered by a Town Board, then by the Borough Council when it was formed in 1887, and next a Fire Board from 1930 until the New Zealand Fire Service took control of all Fire Boards in 1976.
From 1885 Woodville people have had a Brigade to come to their aid; the book lists the trials and hardships of the settlers, the Brigade, and problem faced during the early years. The Brigade was community based, and is still the same today under the New Zealand Fire Service. During the 125 years the Brigade has protected this town, 438 Brigade members have served with a total combined service of 2149 years. This nearly averaging five years per member.

The book; is a definitive history of the Woodville Brigade.
140 A4 pages, 43% colour, containing history pre Brigade and the 125 years service to the community.
The cover is a colour laminated card with a glued binding.
Contents; chronological table, photos, facts, notes from minutes, newspaper copy, written text and reports, buildings and equipment of Woodville and Brigade
from 1885 until today. Member’s stories, a list of all recorded members and
includes a Gorge cemetery tour of past firemen.
Book release 16th March 2010 Ordered books can be collected from this date.
